| The lining of the intestine is made of simple columnar nonciliated epithelial tissue. The columnar cells allow lots of room for absorption of nutrients and then secretion into the blood vessels below the basement membrane. It is this volume which tends to expand the amount of time needed for a glucose buzz to occur from a piece of chocolate cake! This is not the answer that I was looking for, however!
