The bladder lining, while it is open to the outside world and needs the protection of a stratified tissue, also needs a lot of distention (stretchability). The best tissue for this is transitional epithelium since it can almost double in size in a matter of hours. The stratified squamous keratinized epithelium (in the outer human epidermis) and the stratified squamous nonkeratinized epithelium(of the uterus lining) can also stretch, but not to as great an extent. This is not the answer that I was looking for, however! Lets return to the original question. |
