The learning experience is not a spoon-feeding of knowledge, but rather an interaction between the instructor and students and between the students themselves. I am only facilitator in the student's pursuit of knowledge. I believe that what a person learns has a direct relationship to what a person puts into learning.
................................
My teaching philosophy is a resource-based, student-oriented, operationalized approach to learning; that is providing current information that integrates the theoretical and textbook with the real world in a student-friendly environment.

Student participation in class
I began teaching at Delta College in 1989 as a part-time adjunct instructor while working full-time in local corrections. In 1999, I was hired full-time. I am the Criminal Justice Chair and Corrections Program Coordinator, as well as teaching a full-time load of 5 corrections and criminal justice classes.
Individual Instruction and Independent Studies are available on a case-by-case basis for students with specific extenuating circumstances. Please contact me for more information.
While at Delta, I began my study of judo in the Delta College Judo Club. As a faculty member, I have continued my study of the martial arts by beginning Tai Chi classes at Delta College and continuing in a private studio.
Delta College's Career Center assisted my in getting my first criminal justice job while still attending Delta. The Career Center also provides other services, such as resume-building and career exploration.
I transferred to Michigan State University to study Criminal Justice. I continued to study judo in the MSU Judo Club.
A job offer from a mid-Michigan Sheriff Department brought me back to mid-Michigan. In a transfer to Saginaw Valley State University I studied both Criminal Justice and Sociology, eventually earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in both disciplines.
The pursuit of knowledge continued on to graduate studies at Central Michigan University, where I earned a Master of Arts degree in Social and Criminal Justice, while continuing to work full-time for the Sheriff's Office.

I'm a "closet biologist" who enjoys learning about the world around me. I often take biology and other science classes for personal growth, education and experience.
Wolf Park: I discovered Wolf Park after a class trip in Delta's BIO 114, a truly amazing class!
Dolphin Research Center: Another discovery through the "Animal Behavior-The Dolphin" class trip in Delta's BIO 114A.
Isle Royale National Park: An amazing nature and backpacking experience through Delta's "Ecology of Isle Royale", BIO 126.
Isle Royale National Park: Plan your own trip!
The AuSable Institute's Great Lakes campus: Delta's "Survey of Plant Communities" course was spent here, doing field studies of a variety of delightful types of plant life found in Michigan's wetlands and woods.
