Living in Michigan—A Good Experience
by
Willie J. Richardson

Living in Michigan is a good experience for anyone. With the four seasons and various types of weather, things never stay the same. While formerly living in Tennessee, I missed the different changes in the weather, and I could not wait to get back home to Saginaw, Michigan. While living in Michigan I never thought I could miss the simplest things such as snow, but I did.

Michigan is also an amazing place with beautiful trees, lakes, and rivers all around the state. In the summer the temperature can get real hot, and that's when everything seems to come to life. When fall comes around, that's the time when the temperature goes down and leaves fall from the trees, leaving them naked. The air smells like winter is near, and the wind blows a cool breeze and birds fly south for the winter. As soon as winter arrives, snow will eventually cover the ground, trees, houses, and everything you can possibly see. Winter is the time when the state slows down--but not to a stop--because when you live in Michigan you learn to adapt to all weather conditions. After winter comes spring, a time of flowers blossoming, warmer weather, and the return of migratory birds.

These weather alterations might not mean anything to others, but the changes in the weather and the four seasons play a significant role in my life. The changes help me plan and prepare throughout the year. Without these transformations, the year would probably just seem the same to me the all year through.

Michigan might have unusual weather, but there is no other place I would rather live.
