Native American Month

Delta College celebrated its first annual Native American Month Celebration on Nov. 8, 2005.

Native American Month Activities:

Mike Slasinski, curator of the Saginaw Logging and Indian Museum, displayed one-of-a-kind artifacts such as prehistoric tools, authentic clothing, and masks.  Mike’s collection was recently featured in the Saginaw Art Museum’s “Woodland Indians” exhibit.

Sandi Dezelah, from the Bay City Public Schools Title 7 Indian Education Program, displayed and demonstrated her beautiful beadwork, and members of the Ziibiwing Center from Mount Pleasant were also on hand to discuss their center and answer questions.

Native American artisans and Delta students of Native American heritage displayed crafts, costumes, and games.  Throughout the month of November, the display case in J-Wing featured Native American books from the Delta LLIC, a Jingle Dress created by a member of the Chippewa tribe, and a variety of other artifacts.

Native American History Month is co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Services and the LLIC.
